Enchantment Equitreks is a top vacation destination for the solo equestrian traveler. This family run, boutique outfitter accommodates up to four riders at a time, so clients are guaranteed a more intimate experience. They tailor their rides to a rider’s pace, ability, and comfort, whether guests are horse enthusiasts or avid riders. Enchantment Equitreks is not a nose-to-tail dude ranch, but an equine adventure business that offers riders a wide range of landscapes to discover. Riding terrain ranges from the banks of the Rio Grande River to the peaks of the Sandia Mountains, and the painted deserts of Galisteo Basin Preserve.
Nestled in the heart of the Southwest, Enchantment Equitreks aims to showcase the blend of Hispanic, Native American, and American Pioneer cultures that makes New Mexico so unique. On offer are many specialty rides that encompass rich history, such as the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow, Rodeo De Santa Fe, and Wine Festival at a historic Spanish Colonial ranch. The highlight of the season is an eight day ride during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in October where riders watch the sky fill with a kaleidoscope of hot air balloons from the comfort of the saddle.
Enchantment Equitreks is a ranch located at the southern tip of the Rockies; a true mountain retreat. Join them on the tree top patio for a morning Yoga sessions or sign up for a Wellness Week with Reiki healing, aromatherapy, and restorative yoga. This mother-daughter family run team also offers Equi Yoga classes that borrow asanas and breathing techniques from yoga and translates them into the saddle.
Enchantment Equitreks is an outfitter with a mission: to provide rescue horses with the support they need to find a forever home. While they are dedicated to delivering extraordinary experiences for their riding clients, they are also committed to healing the horse community. All of their ranch horses are originally from a rescue and have been expertly trained as experienced trail horses who love their job. Enchantment Equitreks continues to work with rescue horses through its special foster program.
The Foster Program concentrates on finding rescue horses a home. Often these horses have been surrendered due to the owners’ inability, financially or physically, to further care for their beloved companion. Thankfully there are places like Walking ‘N Circles Ranch (WNCR), The Horse Shelter, and horse rescues like them that are able to take in and care for such horses. Even though these shelters have many dedicated ranch hands to help with the day to day chores, there are always a growing number of horses who need to be ridden and trained. In their program, the fostered horses receive months of solid riding and training by their outfitters to keep them physically and mentally fit and better candidates for adoption. When you ride with Enchantment Equitreks, part of your fee goes to helping these rescued animals.
Guests are greeted each morning with a European continental breakfast with fresh breads, meat and cheeses, fruits, melons, yogurt, granola and eggs. Lunches are often light salads or soups served picnic style out on trail. Dinners are sit down, family style and celebrate New Mexico cuisine with slow roasted meats, local organic ingredients, and spiced with roasted green and red chilies. Evenings often end by relaxing next to a fire and gazing out at the stars with a homemade dessert and glass of wine. They source most of Enchantment Equitreks meats, vegetables, and fruits are local farms and ranches. This riding vacation company is able to accommodate many food restrictions and allergies for vegetarians, vegans, and gluten free menus.
The two story guest house, decorated in a southwest ranch style, offers three bedrooms, two and a quarter bath, kitchen and common room. The downstairs bedroom accommodates two guests and has its own private bathroom. The two upstairs bedrooms accommodate one client each and share the downstairs full bathroom as well as the upstairs quarter bath. The hot tub is open year around and the above ground pool is open in the summer months. Many of their winding paths lead to hammocks, reading nooks, and gardens. Most of the meals are served from the main house patio where travelers can enjoy spectacular views of the valley below.

Equestrian Equitreks is geared towards the solo traveler and especially single women out on their own. The all inclusive packages take the guesswork out of planning a vacation and airport transfers offer the security of traveling in a new city. Small groups offer a more intimate setting so clients don’t feel lost in the crowd. Enchantment Equitreks doesn’t charge a single supplement. They do not cancel rides due lack of booking; if they have one client or four – they will still ride. Many of their ladies come needing to “get back in the saddle.” Some have had an accident or haven’t ridden in several years and are seeking to regain their confidence back on a horse.
Although 90% of clients are solo travelers, these New Mexico riding vacations do accommodate couples, small groups and non-riding partners. Enchantment Equitreks has a variety of activities for those who do not wish to ride, such as hiking, mountain biking, golfing, kayaking, and shopping.
Mel and Justyn are a dynamic mother and daughter duo that own and operate Enchantment Equitreks. For many years they traveled all over the world for riding vacations and at home worked with their local horse shelters rehabilitating rescue horses. In 2013, they decided to combine their love of travel, trail riding, and rescue horses by starting their own horseback riding destination in New Mexico.
