Originally a converted barn back in the 1870’s from the Long family’s turnip farm, in the 1940’s, William Barstow purchased the farm as a gift for his wife, Francoise – an active New York socialite always entertaining a variety of guests. Over time, the barn was improved to accommodate a growing cadre of guests and evolved into an inn and tavern. Barstow was an associate of Thomas Edison, and worked to keep the property true to its original natural form, which continues to resonate today. Later owned by William and Margery Wolfe, who realized the natural terrain was ideal for winter sports, a cross country ski center and trail system was developed in the 1960’s. Today, as one of the oldest in the country, the resort boasts 60 kilometers of trails, and some of the best cross country skiing and conditions you can find.
