Stone Horse Expeditions offers horseback riding vacations and cultural experiences amid the natural landscape of Mongolia’s Gorkhi-Terelj National Park and the Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area (Wilderness). Together these areas constitute the largest wilderness in Mongolia, allowing visitors to participate in Mongolian traditions like nomadic herding, the rich horse culture and unrivaled scenic beauty.

What Makes This Vacation Unique

Chinggis Khan grew up in the Khentii Mountains and learned to ride as a boy. You will ride the same ancient trails traversed by the Khans, trekking across mountains, rivers and lush wilderness.

The Mongolian horses ridden by guests are the same hearty breed used in Asia for centuries. Their relatively small stature makes them perfect to travel across rugged mountain terrain. Handmade Western saddles are comfortable for horse and rider.

Location

Gorkhi-Terelj National Park and the Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area are lush wilderness areas steeped in ancient history. In Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s Capital City there are natural history and cultural museums, traditional music and dance, shopping world-class restaurants and Buddhist temples.

Food

The food is diverse, healthy and tasty. Breakfasts include mueslis, breads, eggs, pancakes, tea and coffee. Lunches are served picnic-style with breads, cheeses, fruits and other snacks. Traditional tea and biscuits are served upon arrival to camp. For dinner, wine, steak, pasta various curries and chili are served. Vegetation and vegan diets are easily accommodated with prior notice.

Accommodations

Guests sleep in tents. Comfortable sleeping mats and sleeping bags are provided while out on their Mongolia horseback riding adventure. Campsites are selected for their natural beauty, reflecting the stunning Mongolian landscape. At times guests will stay in traditional Gers or yurts and the first and last nights see guests accommodated in hotels.
